How to Recover.

Some tips to recover from using heroin...
  • invite someone to stay with you at your house while you detox. A person gets extremely sick once they stop using the drug so its important to have someone there to take care of you and there to give you moral support.
  • Stay awake the night before you intend to quit so you can sleep through your withdrawal.
  • buy some motrin for headache and cramps.
  • Attend NA meetings.
  • List some long and short term goals.
  • possibly see a therapist.

Withdrawl

If you have been using heroin for a while, whether as a regular pattern, in binges, or if you have become dependent, you may want to know what to expect if you stop taking heroin and go into heroin withdrawal (ask.com). If you are a heroin addict you will soon begin having withdrawl symptoms. Withdrawl happens 6 to 12 hours after the drug is used and people's time of withdrawl is different. It can last 3-7 days, 5-7 days, and some experience weeks or even months withdrawling. Some symptoms of withdrawl are cravings for more heroin, feeling of depression, and anxious. Also when you move away from the drug you begin feeling achy pain in the back and legs. The reason this happens is because heroin blocks the body's pain pathways. Many excessive body fluids come withdrawl such as sweat, runny nose, and diarrhea.

How is Heroin Used?

Heroin can be injected in a user's veins, smoked or snorted.

What are the Effects of Heroin?

Users who inject heroin will feel a euphoric surge or 'rush' as it is often called. Their mouths may become dry. They may begin to nod in and out and their arms and legs will feel heavy and rubbery. They may experience a deminshed mental capacity and dulled emotions. The effects of heroin lasts three to four hours after each dose has been administered. (about.com)

What does it mean to me?
New technology is being invented everyday. If it continues to build as fast as it is before we know it text books, books, magazines, newspapers, and articles will no longer be used. It is not good that people especially of the younger generation are getting so dependent on technology. As it is the U.S. is struggling with money and who knows if electricity could be shut off temporarily. What will people do then? I think no matter how much technology changes books and other reading materials should be kept around. People won't learn the same and I want my children to one day learn out of a book not out of an iphone.

What is Heroin?

Heroin is an illegal, highly addictive drug. It is both the most abused and the most rapidly acting of the opiates. Heroin is processed from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the seed pod of certain varieties of poppy plants.

It is typically sold as a white or brownish powder or as the black sticky substance known on the streets as "black tar heroin." Although purer heroin is becoming more common, most street heroin is "cut" with other drugs or with substances such as sugar, starch, powdered milk, or quinine.

Street heroin can also be cut with strychnine or other poisons. Because heroin abusers do not know the actual strength of the drug or its true contents, they are at risk of overdose or death. Heroin also poses special problems because of the transmission of HIV and other diseases that can occur from sharing needles or other injection equipment (About.com)

Heroin Addicts!

I am blogging about heroin addictions. I am providing information about symptoms of a heroin addict, statistics, stories of people, and facts about the drug itself. I hope people can share any comments and feelings about the drug. I know it is a drug that many people don't know about and I think it is important for students to be informed. Next year many of us will go on to college and in other words the "real world" and we should be aware about this topic. Don't be shy, comment!
